The big day is here! Today we launch Switch Charge, our mobile app for drivers. Switch Charge lets drivers start and monitor their charging sessions without the need for a card and is integrated seamlessly into the Switch Platform. Switch Charge is available now for selected Switch Platform customers, if you’d like to become a customer reach out to us at hello@switch-ev.com.
We’ve re-worked the dashboard to help you quickly identify and resolve issues with your network. Now you can quickly see the full list of charger issues on your network so you can get them fixed and back to work more quickly.
Charger onboarding is often mentioned as a sticking point for customers with complex requirements for security and often confusing onboarding journeys which depend on the charger installer software. To make this easier today we’re shipping easy charger onboarding allowing us to remove the requirement for manually matching passwords, while retaining the high levels of security we’re known for. To use this feature just onboard a charger as normal, you now have the option to leave the password blank during Switch side onboarding. On the pending station page when the charger tries to connect you’ll now see a button to “Approve charger connection” which will automatically match the password the charger is trying to use.
Session receipts (also known as charge detail records or CDRs) are now added to the Switch Platform for all users. They can be used for billing, auditing, and financial reconciliation purposes. A PDF download button is included for use of the receipt outside of the Platform. To see a session receipt, head to the session page and click the Receipt tab.
Various design updates for even more simple and intuitive charger management. We’ve updated the charging station pages, the charging session pages, and the networks navigation interface - keep an eye out for more design improvements soon, no page will go untouched! Support for deleting stations is also added, to delete a station head to the station settings page.
Static load balancing allows you to set a power limit for a group of charging stations and ensure they never exceed that limit. This keeps you in compliance with local regulations and your local fuse! To create a load balancing group just head to the load balancing tab in the location settings page and select “Create load balancing group” where you can choose the chargers to limit and input the maximum power for that group.
Log upcoming and previous outages for your charging stations to ensure accurate uptime calculation and compliance. Outage types can be selected from a list compliant with US law for NEVI funding and will automatically have their status updated based on start and end times.
User roles are now available on all Switch Platform accounts allowing admins to assign one of four roles to their team members; Admin, Manager, Viewer, or Technician. For details on these permission types just check out the team page in the Switch Platform.
Paythru is now included in the Switch App store, enabling direct payment by QR code and white labelled mobile apps
Big things are coming to Switch, literally! Networks are a major overhaul of how your account is managed allowing for scale, safety, and flexibility. You can now create unlimited numbers of networks within your organisation which are segregated areas for stations, users, tariffs, and drivers. These can be used for hosting sub-operators, sorting assets by region, or just organising your assets however suits your business.
Tariffs can now include blocking fees (aka parking fees) which are applied to drivers occupying a charging station after charging is finished. Apply a grace period and then an amount per minute to be charged beyond that and you’re good to go! Blocking fees will automatically be communicated to third parties through app store integrations and roaming partners.
Drivers can now be onboarded in bulk. Use the CSV template to add hundreds of drivers and tokens at once.
Session minimum and maximum fees are now enabled for all Switch Platform tariffs. This lets you set a lower and upper bound for the total cost of a charging session.
Smart Charging actions are now available from the station remote actions menu. You can set, get, and clear charging profiles on any of your charging stations on the Switch Platform - stay tuned for more smart charging coming soon!
Drivers can now be created with multiple authorisation methods, simplifying driver management and improving the drivers charging experience. Using this feature your drivers can now start a transaction with one of their authorisation methods and stop it with another, for example starting the session with an RFID card and stopping it using a mobile app.
A new station overview page which allows users to set their own custom image for their stations. This is pushed to roaming partners to help drivers identify the station, and it looks pretty.
Session fees are a flat single cost that the driver pays for starting a new charging session. They can now be added to any new or existing tariffs. Look out for more advanced tariff features coming soon!
Now when onboarding a station you’ll get a dedicated “pending” page. Think of it like a lobby where you can chill and tinker with your station while waiting for it to connect. Any connection failure reasons will show up here too. Helping you debug issues remotely and quickly.
We’re going public! Switch Platform now offers integration with the Hubject Roaming hub, the largest roaming hub in Europe for public charging. Our users can now apply to be a listed Switch sub-operator on Hubject with no additional cost, and get paid by drivers using almost any charging app in Europe. Your chargers also become visible on third party navigation apps, bringing more visibility and business to your charging site. To read more about our Hubject integration and how to utilise it, head to this blog post: https://www.switch-ev.com/blog/ev-roaming-switch-users-can-now-benefit-from-europes-leading-roaming-hub

Onboarding unlimited numbers of stations just got easy with CSV onboarding. Follow the flow to add a new station, and you’ll have the option to upload a CSV file of ID’s and Passwords to be onboarded together. The template file helps with the exact format we need.
View the story of a charging session now with session timelines! Charging sessions on the Platform now include timelines, as well as raw message logs, giving you more control and visibility into driver behaviours and potential issues. While timelines for OCPP 1.6 stations tell a good story, timelines on OCPP 2.0.1 capable chargers will be a lot more detailed owing to the more advanced transaction handling in 2.0.1. All charging sessions for all our users now have timelines. To try them out just head to any Switch Platform charging session page, enjoy!
Our brand-spanking new station settings page gives you full control of how you manage your public charging stations. More chargers, more locations, more people - just MORE. More is good.
